Swingadelic with the Swing Dollz: A Musical Tribute to Yonkers during World War II!
Join us Saturday, August. 9th, for an exciting return to the music that permeated our lives during World War II, with an exciting concert featuring songs our parents and grandparents enjoyed during those years. We will return to the music that permeated Yonkers during World War II, with Swingadelic with the Swing Dollz. They will bring us back to the days of big band music, music that punctuated our daily lives.
The extraordinary efforts of Yonkers during the 1940s earned our city the designation of New York State’s World War II American Heritage City! We are the only municipality in New York State who will hold this coveted title.
Our citizens volunteered for all needed duties , going over and above to “bring our boys back home.” We pay tribute to these men, women and children who devoted their lives to winning World War II through the music of their time, celebrating theirsacrifices and lives on the Homefront with a special World War II Concert performed by the acclaimed big band Swingadelic, and special guests!

La Cumbiamba eNeYe
The powerfully rhythmic and melodic Afro-Indigenous-Colombian music of La Cumbiamba NY recreates the traditional open-air Cumbia gatherings known as cumbiambas, the ensemble’s namesake. With traditional instruments such as the indigenous Gaita flutes and the Afro-Colombian drums the group, led by multi-instrumentalist, composer and educator Martin Vejarano, has established itself as one of the finest Cumbia ensembles in the US.
La Cumbiamba performs Gaita Music with its traditional instruments ensemble: Gaitas Y Tambores.
Gaita music was born as a result of the cultural syncretism that took place in the Colombian territory during the years of the Spanish Colony. Musical director Martin Vejarano says “the band’s music features traditional sounds with a contemporary approach, all present in the band’s original repertoire”. Gaita music has a festive and danceable spirit.
La Cumbiamba eNeYe´ has thrilled audiences with recent performances at venues such as Lincoln Center Out of Doors, Central Park SummerStage, Tilles Center for the Performing Arts, Symphony Space and Riverside Church in New York.
